Ground prep for seed

Question
Hello

I am planting new grass this year on our acreage.  I have been rototilling the topsoil and removing some small rocks in preparation.  My question is what is the next step to prepare the soil.  Should I drag it or roll it to compact it or ?
Thanks for your time....
BRAD

Answer
Brad,

First let me compliment you for taking good preperation steps before seeding.  Prep work is 75% in establishing a good stand on grass.

As final steps before seeding I would lightly drag the surface of the soil before seeding.  After seeding I would recomend a light rolling or "wheel walking" with utility cart of lawn tractor to help ensure good seed to soil contact.  Keep well watered after rolling until establishment and you should have good results.

I hope this helps.  Thanks for the question
