pesky rabbits

Question
We planted about 4,000 s.f. of GN-1 bermudabrass 4 months ago.  Everythings rooted and looks real good  except for several areas that seem to appear "burned".  These areas all have larger amounts of rabbit droppings than the rest of the lawn.  My father seems to think urine from the rabbits is doing this to the grass.  Is this possible, or is there something else to consider?

Answer
Hi jon;
It could be urine from the rabbits, if there is a large concentration of urine.
If you fertilized, you could have gotten a bit too much on, and that will burn grass.
Usually when it is caused by urine, there will be a greener appearance at first, because of the added nitrogen, then, if it is not washed through with a watering or a rain, to dilute it, it can start to burn, from the center out.
the browning could also be a fungus called Brown Patch.
for that. treat with a fungicide.
I use baking soda disolved in water and spray the area or plant, thoroughly.
If you want to keep the rabbits off your lawn, aprinkle ceyenne pepper on the  perimeter of your lawn, and that should keep the rabbits out.
I would sprinkle it about 1 foot wide. You don't have to cover thickly, just enough for them to get a whiff. It irritates their noses, just like it does your's if you sniff it.
tere are some plants you can put in to repel rabbits and other critters.
