cat urine in garden

Question
Read your hydrated lime solution to the cat urine smell in the garden.  I would like to know if the lime is at all toxic to cats?  My garden is my cat "litter box" and that is not going to change so want to make sure I am not putting anything down that could harm her.  Also, how long do the results last?  Can I keep applying to neutralize and keep the odor at bay?  Thanks!

Thanks

Answer
Hi Debbie, When dry, it can irritate mucous membranes, once watered, it's not a problem.  Continued use on a garden may raise your pH too high for your plants to grow well, so I don't think it's a good idea to use it often.  I'd prefer to encourage the cat to "go" elsewhere.  Jim
