wild violets everywhere

Question
I have been reading about a sugar application.  Do you use regular white sugar?  Do you dilute it or put it on dry then water?  Please help!  I'm nearly ready to pour concrete everywhere!!

Answer
Hi Barbara;
Yesm just regular white table sugar.
I use only Imperial sugar in my kitchen, but I buy the cheapest brand in the store for my yard.
I juat broadcast it by hand and water it in.
Remember though, what it does is nourish the beneficial microbes that enrich the soil.
It is the rich soil that keeps out the weeds. Weeds like POOR soil, and won't thrive in rich soil.
If you use any chemical fetrilizers or pesticides etc, you will kill the microbes, so putting the sugar will just be a waste.
any chemocals you put on the lawn will kill all the beneficial insects, nemetodes and microbes, and the beneficial critters like toads, lizards etc.
The fertilizers don't kill the critters, but by killing the insects they feed on, you chase them out of your yard.
You have t either go organic al the way, or chemical all the way.
The baking soda for fungus works much better than any of the chemical fungicides I ever used, and I only have to use it once, unless we have a late rainy season and cool enough weather to cause fungus. That is rare where I live, but I had to use fungicides every month to try to control black spot on my roses, and they STILL had some. With the baking soda, When they weather gets nice and warm, I don't get black spot.
The same with insecticides. I had to spray my roses once a month, and the rest of the lawn several times. With the healthy enviornment for my lizards, grass snakes and toads, they eat ALL the bad insects, and I just don't have then. Toads love grubs, which makes them GOOD friends of mine.LOL
