Sugar as a Lawn treatment

Question
This is an ongoing debate - What happens when you put Table Sugar on your Grass?  Have you got any opinion or prediction about whether this is good, bad or neutral?

Answer
Though I do believe that this question is one for the pool, I will answer with some conjecture.
Sugar will feed some micro-organisms which would strengthen the nutrient cycle, but may also cause some imbalance.  It should benefit the plant fiber digesters.  It is used in some formulas to improve composting, in one form or another.  I have heard of molasses used in a compost accelerator.
What it will do in a lawn specifically, I do not know.  Have read no research on the matter.
