In here she mentioned corn glutton. Where can you get this stuff? I've look around some (I live in Knoxville, TN), but for the most part it seems  expensive & the shipping isn't cheap either. Are there alternatives to this?

Thank you,
Jim

Answer
The BEAUTY of growing a Lawn the 21st-century way is that it is CHEAPER than the old fashioned, unhealthy, traditional method.

Just so happens that Corn Gluten Meal is the SAME product they sell in those salt-of-the-earth Farm Supply stores.  They just aren't allowed to call it 'Preemergent Weedkiller'.  Not until the patent runs out, at least.

It's getting a little late to put this down in Knoxville, TN.  Get enough at a good price that you can pour it on without wincing.

Mail Order and Garden Center brands come with directions and a sales pitch, plus they owe royalties to the Patent Holder (Iowa State I believe) and there's a lot of other costs as well.  The bag isn't as pretty, and it won't describe how to use it, but the same Corn Gluten Meal is sold for a low, low price to anyone with livestock.

When you find your supplier, check with them for a 20 percent solution of REAL Vinegar.  Off-the-shelf supermarket Vinegar is only 5 percent strength -- but studies show that the stronger stuff (strong enough to burn your skin but VERY Earth-friendly) does a better job of spot-killing Crabgrass, Canadian Thistle and Dandelions than Round-Up.  Without the nasty side effects!

Let me know if you need more detail; I'll need your zipcode for that.  Thanks for writing.
