Centipedegrass in my Tall Fescue Lawn

Question

I live in Charlotte, NC and did a major yard overhaul to my new yard about 3 years ago.  The home had been vacant for a couple of years before we purchased our home.  We did a major renovation to the yard and seeded with Tall Rescue which has been doing very well.  That is until last year when I noticed large thick patches of Centipede invading my lawn.  I suspect that this was the grass of choice for the prior home owner.  This centipedegrass is very think and appears to be very healthy but turns brown in the winter.  Is there anyway to eliminate the centipedegrass from my tall fescue?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
Your only real option here is to apply a non-selective herbicide like Roundup to the patches as they pop up. It'll unfortunately kill everything though, so you'll need to replant with the Tall fescue once the patch is dead.

Eventually, with diligence, you should be able to eliminate the centipede from coming back and the task will get easier each season.

Sorry I couldn't give you a simpler answer. Good luck!
