malaysian Grass care

Question

rooftop garden
Hello there...

I live at the moment in Bangkok Thailand and I live in a
duplex with a rooftop.. i installed a rooftop garden a
couple of days ago. I made a layer of plastic insulation at
the bottom, a layer of earth/soil and then covered it with
carpets of "malaysian grass". I am to water it 2x a day as
the roots havent taken yet ( i guess it will take a week or
so???) . however I noticed part of the rooftop where the
grass already is brown and completely dry/dead? am I to
water it more often? do i need to give the grass more
"help" by adding something with the water? What is the
usual care for malaysian grass in this heat. I am waiting
for the rainy season as it will take all the work as I
planted "lawn" in all my 6 balconies... trying to make a
green haven in this concrete city.

maybe I should wait till the roots set in and the lawn will
cover the dead parts by itself?

thanks a lot

Answer
Wow, Farouk. That is really cool.

Unfortunately, my expertise really stops somewhere between Connecticut ground and Thailand rooftops.

It sounds as if you are doing the right things, and I would recommend waiting until the grass fully takes root. Then, cut out the sections that are dead and re-sod them.

If you can find any local experts, definitely hire them to consult so that you know whether or not there are any disease issues. That can really only be assessed by somebody on-site. Also, what sort of drainage is in place? If it is simply soil on top of plastic, you may have some serious problems during the rainy season. Essentially, the roof will fill up like a pool and the grass and soil will go for a swim. Not good.

I REALLY wish I was there to take a look for you. This sounds like a great idea, and I would love to see it in person. Let me know how things come along.
