dollarweed and algae

Question
I have dollarweed creeping into my  back yard from a preservation lot behind my house. Would putting scotts bonus S along the back of my property wipe that out? How would you treat this?

Also, along the walkway to my house the grass hasn't filled in and there is green algae on the dirt against it. How do you get rid of that?

Answer
Bonus S is labeled for dollarweed control, so you should be good to use it. Just follow the labeled instructions carefully. Often times it takes a few applications to get things under good control, so stick with it and repeat an application after 4 weeks if necessary.

I'm not sure about the algae, only because I'd have to actually analyze the site to get a good idea of what it is. My best guess though is that there's too much shade, and the soil isn't draining very well. You can correct that by trimming back tree limbs and tilling some compost into the soil before re-seeding. Make sure to water the seed daily.

Good luck Rich!
