lawn on slab

Question
i have a concrete slabbed terrace, laid to slope for drainage with a 3 cms deep offset for a lawn. the lawn-to-be area is approx 2m x 3m. the lawn has to be grown in and within that. how do i make a bed for this and will this be successful?

Answer
I am thinking that the area on which you want to lay the sod has not been slabbed over and it is in the patio area. There is no serious problem in doing so. You will need to choose the sod carefully with respect to the amount of light that it will get. Hand watering would be preferred because you have complete control over how much and how often.
However, if you are saying that you have this slab and somewhere on it you have installed a raised edge (3cm. high) in the form of a rectangle 2m. x 3m. and you want to lay sod on it, then I do not think that it will work. The edge is not high enough and there is no way for grass roots to reach the soil.
