I think he killed our Floratam!

Question
Help me please. I have lived in my home for just under 3 years and have always been the one to purchase our weed and feed. I buy Scotts because that is what my late father bought and he always had the best lawn. Since I live in deep South Texas and Floratam grass, I make sure to always check to see that I am getting weed and feed that will not kill my lawn.
Well, leave it to me to come down with Swine Flu. As I am in recovery, I sent my husband to our local Lowes to buy the weed and feed with winterizer. Leave it to him to not read the directions and precautions... he bought one by Pennington that very specifically says to not use on Floratam  which he liberally applied!!! What is going to happen to my lawn? Can I salvage it? He has not watered it because I, being curious, got out of bed and went to check on him. To my horror, I saw what he was applying and asked him in my most nagging wife tone, (shall I say yell?) That he stop.
Too late. It was applied to my front lawn. Luckily, he had not watered.
Please help me out here. I am desperate for my poor lawn.
What can we do?

Answer
Concentrate all your efforts on recovering fully. Try not to worry about the lawn because there is very little you can do to reverse the effect of the weed killer chemical. Floratam has good survival skills. It puts out runners which root readily when in contact with the ground. While the lawn will turn brown in a dramatic way, after a while bits of green will show up and in time they will send out new runners and it is quite possible that by next spring you will have enough of a lawn to build on. On the other hand if you tend your lawn as a sort of tribute to your late dad now is the time to demonstrate that you can cope with adversity. After all, a freeze or similar natural occurence would have landed you in the same predicament.
