Our lawn is in bad shape - is it dead?

Question
Hi!

We've neglected the lawn on one side of our house, and it's in pretty bad shape. I'm attaching pictures below so you can see what i'm talking about.

It's basically just mud and mossy grass now. I'm not sure what happened. I doubt it's a fundamental drainage problem because we've stayed here for many years, and once upon a time, there was grass. Has the soil evolved, causing a temporary drainage problem?

More improtantly, what can be done to rectify the problem? I don't mind putting in a few hours over a weekend to fix it. Or will we need to get professionals to do major repairs?

We live in Singapore, right at the equator. So it's mostly hot and wet, with a good amount of rain year round, especially in Dec/January.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Shu Huang
I appericiate your concern. Nothing is big wrong with your lawn. First you need to avail drainage o your lawn. For that you can mix course sand in you lawn soil and level angle so that it can go through sewage or somewhere. add some fungicide in soil. If possible check soil condition using soil testing kit. then make a research in market for best suited variety available in your area. grow it again in your lawnwith some basal fertilizers. I think march will be best season to grow for your locality.
Any question? You are always welcome.
