Question
Hi I live in Chicago and as anyone in the mid-west knows we had a very rough winter,i have a regular green flytrap with red inside the leafs that my mom got me last year that did great, put it in an unheated but very cold enclosed porch over the winter with plenty of natural light and kept it watered and re-potted in the beginning of April with Your flytrap soil and keep it watered with steam distilled water and I'm not seeing any signs of life,am I being impatient? please help

Answer
Hi Joel,

Flytraps generally emerge from dormancy a bit later, especially in your region.  At our nursery in Oregon, I usually see them emerge from dormancy in early May.  For Chicago, I suspect that late May might be more appropriate

If you're concerned about the health of your plant, you can always unpot your plant to inspect the bulb.  As long as the bulb is white and firm, your plant is still alive.  At that point you'll need to simply be patient for it to emerge from dormancy.

Good growing!
