Byhalia grass

Question
byhalia grass seeds
byhalia grass seeds
I live in western North Carolina in the foothills and have about 12 acres of pasture for my horses. Several yrs ago I started seeing some byhalia grass and now my pasture is full. The seeds are sticky and get on my horses faces and legs and require daily cleaning, when I have the time. I read that the seeds can be toxic if a large amount is ingested. Is this true? Do I have a healthrisk for my horses? How can I eliminate this from my pasture?
Thank you,

Answer
"Caution: Seed heads of the cultivar 慉rgentine?are often
infected by ergot (Claviceps paspali).  Pregnant mares can
experience abortion problems if they eat large quantities
of infected seed heads.  Also, ingestion of infected seeds
can produce toxic effects in cattle.  The occurrence of
toxic seed heads can be managed through mowing or by
keeping pregnant horses confined."
