alberta spruce browning

Question
I have a dozen or so dwarf Alberta Spruce trees on a property line, and every spring they are brown on the southeastern sides of the plants.  They are nice and green on the northern sides of the plants.  Do you know why this happens every winter?  Thanks for any suggestions for preventing this problem as well.

Answer
Hi KBKBKB

the reason that your spruce trees are browning off on the south eastern side is simply because during the winter that area is affected by dramatic changes in temperature.

The south eastern side receives moist winds suring the night and also cold, easterly winds. It is then subjected to heat from the sun at around 10 o'clock and water droplets o the leaves can magnify the early sun, say in april and burn the leaves.

Hope that answered your question
