Gardenias

Question
I want to know why my leaves are turning yellow and dying, they are planted in the ground

Answer
Hi Barbara

Ok, there are several reasons why plant's leaves turn yellow during the growing season.

It is always linked to the fact that the plant is not absorbing enough nutrients (mainly Nitrogen) from the soil. This can happen for many reasons but the main reasons are:
- the soil is too dry and the water that carries the nutrients isn't freely available
- the soil is very poor and doesn't contain the nutrients necessary
- the pH of the soil is either too acid or too alkaline to permit the nutrients to be absorbed by the plant's normal processes.

Gardenias enjoy a moist, rich and acidic soil in full sunshine, s may be growing in dry alkaline soil by the sound of it??

Please check the condition of your Gardenias from a cultural viewpoint and we can determine what the problem is.

I hope that this has been useful Barbara
