Japanese maples and dwarf oleander

Question
I live in Arlington, TX and would like to replace a Japanese maple that was heat stress and has not come back in the last 2 years.  What variety should I look for in my area?  I would prefer to have a red leaf dwarf.
Also, we had some dwarf oleanders that froze the first winter after planting.  Can those be replaced in our area and survive the winter?  They are on the south side of the house with plenty of sun.

Answer
Hi Jerry,

Regarding the maple, try to find something called "Acer Palmatum cv. yatsubusa"
The best way to know what would survive in your area would be look around the gardens and nurseries in town.

Oleanders are sensitive to cold weather, specially the young ones.
Again, see if any nurseries would carry them around.
If so, get a more mature plant.

God luck!

Carlo
