Flagstone in the backyard

Question
QUESTION: I really want your help, I have flagstones in the backyard and they are all uneven, I hired a contractor to remove all the flagstones and re do them but the results are not what we wanted, What can we do even them out?

ANSWER: Is the flagstone being used as a patio, walkway, sitting area???  The flagstone must be level.  First the area needs to be dug out, tapped, and landscape fabric installed, then 2-4" of modified stone applied and tamped, then 2' of course sand leveled out, then the flagstone installed and tapped down with a rubber mallet.

QUESTION: The Flagstones are being used for sitting area and all the procedures have followed but the thickness of each stone varies from the other so we get uneven patio floor

Answer
Did you purchase the flagstone yourself or did a contractor pick them out?   When I choose a stone material for a customer I am very selective.  You want to look for flagstone that all have relatively the same thichkness.  You can't always get it perfect, and flagstone is suposed to offer a more rustic feel. I your case each piece of flagstone will have to be set individually to get level.
