lots of water in my yard

Question
When it rains the back of my yard and part of the right side of my yard fills up with water.  The ducks come and have a ball but its very muddy in most of the yard.  Is their a plant or flower that I can plant that will soak up the water.  I tried filling the area with dirt but it made it worst.

Answer
Hello Lois, the only way to deal with this problem is simply to install a land drain. This means digging a long trench about half a yard dee, then placing a corrugated plastic land drain, covering that with builders nylon and then filling the whole trench with large shingle (pebbles) The shingle should then again be covered with builders nylon (very important!) and then covering with soil. The pipe should either lead the water out to a run off or an underground soakaway. Therefore the pipe should clearly have a slope on it that leads the water to the exit (run-off) point.
