standing water

Question
our neighbor has a plastic pipe across the yard with rocks over it. Now the pipe has come up and all the drainage water is coming into our yard. Now our yard has standing water and the whole yard is a mud pit. Do we dig up the whole yard and start over to build it up again and level it or try to block the hose in her yard or just deal with the standing water?

Answer
Hello,

Unless there is a strong reason why it is unavoidable for your neighbor to drain water onto your property what your neighbor is doing is illegal and he should take steps to correct the problem at his expense. Correcting this problem should not be at your expense.

But in case there is some reason why the problem cannot be corrected on your neighbors end, there are a number of options that may be availabe to you which may include perforated drainage pipe, rain garden, retention pond, drywells, catch basin,etc..  The water has to go to some disposal point whether to a place where it can be drained away or allowed to soak into the ground.
Good luck.
