well for irrigation

Question
Hey Jeff,

I'm looking to install underground on my property. There  is an old well that served the house before it was connected to municipal water. I'd like to use this well to supply my system but I know nothing about pumps and little about plumbing.

What should I be looking for in a pump, assuming that the well is deep enough to provide safe drinking water?

Is there any easy way to test the well without connecting a pump?

Is the an easy way to clear the well if it is fouled or corroded?

Any information or thoughts you might have would be appreciated,

Thanx,Steve

Answer
Truthfully, you need to have a local well service person survey the situation an advise you.  There are many variables and concerns when putting an old well into operation.  You really dont want to open up a can of worms.  Get it checked out and get some real expert advice.
