My dog chewed my irrigation wires - help!

Question
My puppy chewed through most of the 6 valves wires.  I do not know what to connect to what - help!  There are two large wire cables coming up out of the ground and they contain colored wires, 7 including a black wire.  I can tell that I need to splice the solenoid wires and make them longer (some are only 2" long). I purchased waterproof splices for 14-16ga and 14ga wire.  Can you tell me the proper connection of the colored wires to the solenoids?  (Oh, I also purchased a cover to hide them from the dog!)

Answer
Hey Barb, I hope this helps. First thing you need to do, is look in the back of the controller, and find where the field wires are hooked to the controller. The most important wire to locate is the one hooked to the terminal marked C (common). Once you find the color of this wire, all the solenoids will have one wire that need to hook to the common wire. It doesn't matter what wire you pick from the solenoids, just hook one wire from each solenoid to the common wire. Now locate the different wires on the terminal strip marked #1, #2, etc. Each of these wires will be your hot wire, and each individual wire will hook to the corresponding valve wire on the solenoid, not hooked to the common wire. Basically you will have one wire C the common wire that goes to one wire from each solenoid. You will then use the un-used wire from the solenoid, and hook it to a hot wire #1, or #2 or etc. from the controller. Good luck and have a great day.
