Why such tomato giants with only a few fruits?

Question
Hi, experts:

Tomatos prouted out from the ground and grew and grew to heights of ten feet and over (one to 16 ft), but only five or six fruits. Then they all wilted at the top half.  The leaf just dried up for no reason (we water plenty).  The only reason I can think of is the heavy vegitable waste I put into the soil prior to planting. Any clue?  Thanks!
KC

Answer
Dear KC,
I would agree with your guess.  It does sound like over fertilization, which ultimately resulted in a burn of sorts at the farthest distance from the roots.  Many plant foods and fertilizers attribute to the foliage, but not the fruit.  Excessive foliage actually robs the plant of it's ability to produce fruit.
Next year, a little more "just plain garden variety dirt" and go sparingly on the additives.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
