Yellow Leafs on Baby corn

Question
My baby corn are coming up and the leafs are yellow instead of green, I think they are lacking something but I do not know what.  Can you help? My soil is slightly sandy, and the corns are about two weeks old. I live in Washington. Eastern..This is a great website.
Debbie

Answer
Dear Debbie,
Sounds like the soil needs a bit of a "boost."  Perhaps, the sandiness of the soil is permitting too much drainage.  I would suggest adding top soil, then possibly some horse manure.  Go very sparingly with the fertilizer, though at this tender age of the plant.  Next year in the fall, I suggest mixing chicken litter in the soil where the garden will be planted.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
