Question
I am growing two Burpless Cucumbers (Sweet Success Hybrid and Sweeter Yet Hybrid).  I was wanting to can some pickles this summer, but have recently read that you should only pickle the pickling type cucumbers because others can get mushy.  Do you know if I could have success pickling either of these two cucumbers.

Dear Mike,
I never raise burpless, because I don't like hybrids, but I know of several folks that do raise them.  Those that also can and make pickles, raise pickling cucumbers for that, using the burpless only to eat fresh.  I don't know of any successful pickle recipe for burpless cucumbers.  Getting mushy can be an issue for any pickle making, so I would recommend regular pickling cucumbers for canning.
