bellpeppers

Question
I have a yellow and a red bellpepper plant in for 6 weeks now. I have a pepper on the vine but it has a crusty brown spot on it.  The plant has an abundance of white flower buds.  Overall the health of the plant looks good. In between  watering, as recommended, the plant wilts badly.  I live in California and the weather is 90+. I fertilize 10-10-10 before planting and once since. I added eggshell for calcium and mag. to try to solve the problem. I am now watering every other day and that solves to wilting.  I read I should water heavy but only twice a week. Am I doing the right thing but adjusting the frequency of watering? The ground is still moist at root level when wilting occurs. Thanks for the help.

Answer
Dear Carrie,
Wilting and the brown spot sounds like something other than a water issue, especially if the soil is still moist.  I am in the Ozark Mountains and I water peppers and tomatoes every evening it doesn't rain, until the end of June.  I am thinking this may be a soil issue and increased watering may possibly help keep the soil better circulated.
I wish I could offer more, but as to the watering, do what makes the plant thrive, regardless of what you read.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
