Growing in San Diego

Question
Hi Elyse I was wondering what will be good to grow as a shade crop in mid June... ps i live in San Diego.

Answer
Charley-

Lettuce would probably work in June in your area, as would spinach. Parsley will take some shade, so will beets, carrots and peas. Bunching onions would grow in shade. Most of these are cool-weather crops (you can find some heat tolerant varieties of spinach), so if it's in the 80s even in the shade, they might not be of the best quality.
