Garden Pests/Disease

Question
My husband and I put in a square foot garden in the Spring.  The plants were doing very well, but we now have a few varieties that seem to either be struggling with the heat or are being eaten by a pest of some kind.

1. Corn/Peppers- The corn looked great, was growing rapidly, but is now turning an orange/yellow color on some of the leaves.  Not just the tips, but the entire leaf itself looks like it is changing to a fall-like shade of orange/yellow. I have a few green and red bell-pepper plants that are starting to do the same thing.

2. Cantaloupe/Potatoes- Additionally, we are seeing tiny holes on the leaves of some of our other plants like cantaloupe and the tops of the potato plants.  Do you have any suggestions for pest control?

Thanks!

Answer
Sounds like the corn and peppers may need some water. It may be the heat or lack of water. Try mulching after watering to conserve moisture. Peppers should be able to take the heat though.

The cantaloupe could have flea beetles, though I've never seen them on potatoes. Unless the plants are being completely defoliated, I don't do much for control. You could try neem oil - that's about the only pesticide I use - but don't use it if the weather is really hot.
