Tomato plant; Frost

Question
I bought a Big Boy small tomato plant and planted it in a pot on my southern exposed porch.  It was doing fine and produced 3 fruit and then two MUCH smaller fruit...we have had horribly cold weather hear in So. Fl.  Some of the leaves on my plant are brown/yellow.  What can I do to fix this problem and to get more fruit or am I out of luck?  How many fruit should I have gotten and why not am I not getting fruit.  This is the first time I have attempted this and I am pretty good at growing things.  Thanks, Lisa

Answer
Tomatoes will go into shock when the weather turns cold. They will often perish even in the lightest frost. Potted plants should be brought indoors when temperatures fall below 45F.

If you still have green on the stems and most of the leaves, the plant should recover once the temperatures return to normal. The shock from the cold weather will set the plant back at least two weeks. You can either wait it out or purchase new plants. My recommendation is to allow the plants to recover since they will produce quicker than new plants, assuming as I said, the leaves and stems still are green.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever provide assistance.

Regards,

Mike
