Spagetti squash

Question
I have just cooked my first spagetti squash and was wondering if you could plant the seeds that came from the cooked squash,I was told to microwave for 7 minutes, then cut open  clean seeds out and cook in oven,so  needed to know if you could use those seeds to plant, and if putting in microwave would have hurt the seeds, I live in the Georgia area.  thanks, Joann

Answer
Microwaving the seeds will definitely make them non-viable for planting. This is also true for any seed cooked in a conventional oven. The heat literally destroys the reproductive elements of the seed.

You can purchase seeds for spaghetti squash at your local garden center or online at companies such as Park Seed or Burpee. They sell several varieties, most of which are hybrids for better resistance to disease and better growing habits for larger squash.

I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever provide assistance.

Mike
