What to use for Tall Glass Vase

Question
Hello,
I want to make a silk arrangement on top of a 29" glass vase, mouth opening is 6 inches. Can you please tell me what container to use and how to keep it secured. I tried the plastic green bowl but it slides & makes arrangement look crooked. Some say use a plate... But how do you get the sticky tape to stick on a skinny piece of glass opening? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Marie,
Here's my advice:
Use a container called a Lomey dish. They are plastic with curved edges so they hold water. They come in black, white or clear ( 6",9" or 11").I would use the 6 or 9 inch one, depending on how elaborate your silk arrangement is.  The styrofoam should be centered and glued (craft glue is ok)and taped (sticky green floral tape) across the top and all the way under the bowl and across the top again. Then you will use an adhesive that comes on a roll (florist supply store has this Oasis brand Uglu) on the rim of your glass vase. Make sure the glass is clean inside because you will now stick the prepared Lomey dish to it.  Now you can start working on your arrangement.  These supplies are all available at floral supply stores, but you could also call a local flower shop and they might be willing to give you what you need for one project for less money.
It's very important to have the mechanics strong before you begin working as it will be difficult to fix it afterwards.
Just regular tape will not work to adhere the bowl to the vase.  What I'm talking about is almost like a  sticky clay substance, like what they use to keep china from falling off a shelf during an earthquake.
I hope this all makes sense to you.  Any flower shop should know what you need if you are not located near a florist supply store.
Good luck to you, and please feel free to ask any more questions. I know it's exasperating when you don't have the proper supplies...but don't give up!!
Thanks for your question.
Peggy
