Hi i was wondering if you could tell me what the advantages of using  a fertiliser containing slow release plant food are.

Most plants prefer to be fed gradually instead of heavily at first and then suffering from depleted resources. Slowly available fertilizers tend to provide better plants overall. there are exceptions: plants which need to take up nutrients during a very small window: tulips in spring, cool season lawns in late fall, etc they all benefit from quickly available nutrients, but in general, plants prefer to be fed gradually (evenly) - same as humans.
