Avacado tree help

Question
We planted an avocado pit in a flower pot on my terrace last summer.. it grew 6 inches.. I brought it in for the winter it grew to a 3 foot tall tree w/beautiful green leaves..some 10 inches long.Problem.. put it out this a.m. on the terrace ... tonight a bunch of leaves are brown/dry...did it get sunburned? I took it in. What else can I do to bring it back?  Should I keep it indoors?

Answer
Just like when you go out in the sun in the spring, and you get badly sun burned, the plants do the same thing. The leaves need to be "hardened off" gradually, so that they don't burn. Once it gets used to being in more, and more sun, it will grow much better, then if you kept it in the house. So, start by putting it in a shady spot, then dappled shade under a tree, then morning sun, with afternoon shade, then full sun. Watch the temperature of the suns rays on the surface of the leaf. If it is a scorcher, get it out of the sun right away.
The leaves that are damaged, will not repair themselves. They are cooked. But, don't be in a hurry to remove them, because they will help protect the other leaves, while you are adjusting the plant. Once you are confident that the plant will not burn any more, then you can remove the brown leaves.
I also like to use cloudy days, when I move my indoor plants, outdoors.
