daphne flower bud browning

Question
Hi, I have a Daphne in 4" pot. It grew from a cutting last year, and had 4 or 5 flower buds. The bud in the lowest part of the plant bloomed nicely, but a few buds of the top part turned brown and started to fall.  I am wondering what caused this.  This plant is in my kitchen, facing the east window.  I don't have any heater nearby.  I did not feed it, but I used Miracle Gro potting mix, which feeds up to 3 months when I planted.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
It could be watering, and humidity. These are outdoor plants. They tend to be sensitive to sun burn and wind burn. But they also respond to humid winter air. In the house with heat, they are too dry, even in the kitchen. Try filling a pan with water, then set a brick in the middle of it, so that the top of the brick is out of the water. Put the Daphne on the brick. Don't over water the soil. Let it dry out, before you give it more water. But keep water in the pan.
As soon as the weather warms enough, plant it outside, in a sunny, but protected area, like next to the house, on the North-East side. Give it plenty of rich, well drained soil.
