Tulbaghia violacea

Pink agapanthus (Tulbaghia violacea) tul-BAG-ee-ah vy-oh-LAY-see-ah Genus:  Tulbaghia Pink agapanthus is a fast-growing, clumping perennial with narrow, garlic-scented leaves and large umbels of fragrant lilac flowers in summer and early fall. It grows to 2 feet tall. Leaves can be used in soups and salads. Noteworthy Characteristics:  Native to South Africa. Vigorous grower. Large, fragrant flowers. Care:  Adaptable to most any soil that is well-drained, humusy, loamy, and moderately fertile. Propagation:  Sow seed or divide in spring. Seed can also be sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. Problems:  Sometimes bothered by aphids, whiteflies, root rots, leaf spots, and Southern blight.
