Gardeners’ Give & Take is an open round table discussion hosted by Urban Roots every other Saturday morning in winter.  It’s first two sessions this year have been well attended and very lively and informative, for both newcomers and ‘regulars.’

At our last get-together, we talked about

• techniques for, and benefits from mulching with leaves
• some interesting experiences with growing and propagating houseplants
• growing plants outdoors that might not ordinarily grow in our Zone 5/6 gardens, like eucalyptus
• garden pests and their predators; and in particular, ways of controlling Japanese beetles

We will meet again this Saturday, February 2, and we plan to revisit the subject of ‘zone stretching’, as well as talk about creative ideas for front yard gardens, inspired in part by the book The No Mow Front Yard.  We welcome all gardeners to join in for a congenial conversation on any gardening topic.  We’ll supply the coffee.
