Changing A Shower Head

Is your old shower head not working properly? Changing a shower head is not a difficult task and most of the homeowners can tackle it and finish the work in just 30 minutes of time. You can really enjoy the bath with new enhanced shower head. So now we will see how we can change a shower head.

Different tools required for fixing a new shower head are- a new shower head, adjustable pliers, masking tape, plumbers tape large towel or a piece of cardboard. Assemble these tools before you start the changing process to finish your work with no trouble in the mid.

Market is flooded with different kinds of shower head, such as eco-friendly, water-limiting nozzles and spa type showers. All of these have their own advantages and disadvantages. You need to select one that matches your requirements the most. Don’t forget to cut the water supply before starting the replacement process.

With the help of adjustable pliers, remove the old shower head. Keep on revolving the existing shower head in counter-clockwise direction up to the point it is free from connector and shower stem.

Once you have unscrewed the old shower, remove all the remainders from shower stem’s thread. If any thing like tape pieces or gunk is left on shower stem, it can cause leakage in new shower head as the seal will not be strong enough to resist it. Hence, proper cleaning using a paper towel is very essential.

Now wrap any commercial plumber’s tape around the threaded fitting for a watertight seal. Normally, Teflon Tape is considered to be a good choice for this task. While applying the Teflon tape it is important to note that you wrap it in the direction in which you will screw the shower head onto the shower stem. If you do not do this, the tape will bunch up and tear when you screw on the new shower head assembly. This may result in leaks.

When the shower stem is properly taped, attach the new shower head by rotating the fitting onto the threaded pipe and turning it in clockwise direction until the unit is firmly secured. Make sure that you do not over tighten it.

At last just turn on the water supply to the shower and test all of the unit’s features and if it is working fine, your new shower is ready and your work is over.
