Kill Fire Ants with Natural Methods

Fire ants are the most dangerous of the species. Their stings are painful and cause burning sensation on the site of sting. If your garden is infested with fire ants, then you need to act fast and kill them. Fire ant control can be expensive and time consuming, but you still need to kill them to have a safe environment for you and your family.

Spraying strong insecticides can kill fire ants instantly but it’s not environmental-friendly. Plus it can be harmful to children and pets. Also these insecticides can kill other species of ants that help in slowing down the fire ant population. So please take care that you are only attacking fire ants.

Baits are a very common way to kill fire ants. Te worker ants carry them to the nest and the queen feeds on them which kill her and also the other worker ants in the nests. But baits should be your last resort as they can be harmful to other ants as well as birds who consume them.

How to kill fire ants naturally?

There are quite a few nontoxic fire ant control methods. These methods are not guaranteed but you can always give them a try if you want to kill fire ants in a natural way instead of using chemicals.

  • Boiling water: This is one of the most common home remedy for a fire ant invasion. This works but is not quite effective as it does not kill them but only causes the fire ants to move to a different location. But you can be persistent with this method so that the fire ants do not build their nests in your surrounding.
  • Drowning fire ants mounds: This method can be used only if there are couple of mounds in your property. You need to dig the colony and pour in about five gallons of soapy water and let it sit there for 24 hours. The water and soap will kill them. But be very careful while digging up the mound as they are risks of being stung.
  • Remove their scented trails. This method needs a bit of patience as they need to be repeated to throw the fire ants off track. Dig up the mound and scatter them downwind as far as you can. You must do this just before a rain or early evening before the ants have gone underground for the night. By doing this their scented trails will be washed off by rains and dew and most of the fire ants will not be able to find their way back.

Try out these natural methods to kill fire ants or at least get rid of them.
