Garden Pond Designs

Garden pond designs will be determined by the size and shape of the available space in your yard, as well as your own personal preferences. Fortunately, there are many different possibilities to accommodate nearly any situation. For instance, if you love explosions of colorful flowers, you can build a pond into or alongside your existing flower garden. If you prefer a calm, zen-like atmosphere, you can build a Japanese-style pond heavy on bamboo and lilies.

Some people simply do not like flowers or maintaining a garden, period. Even for these people, ponds can be built that are comprised solely of rocks and pebbles. Others love pottery and sculpture; these can be added copiously to a garden pond to give it a very human touch. In fact, a statue of a human figure arising from the middle of a pond can be a very dramatic addition to your landscaping scheme.

Cement or marble birdbaths are also wonderful additions to your garden pond design. Not only are they elegant looking, but they also attract wildlife to your pond. One of the pleasures of having a garden, whether it's made of water or flowers, is the delightful creatures that make their home in it. Bird enthusiasts can design a pond that attracts birds, with plants and insects that draw their favorite species. Fish and frogs can also be added for even more variety.

Some people with small children would love to have a pond in their yard, but are reluctant to do so because of safety concerns. An easy solution is not a pond, but a freestanding waterfall. With a waterfall, you get all the pleasures of a pond--visual beauty, attendant wildlife, and the pleasant sound of rushing water--with none of the risks.
