How to Maintain a Garden Pond Fountain

Garden Pond Fountains are beautiful additions to your landscape. They look great after they are first installed because everything works great. They will look exactly as you had pictured it when you first started to think about putting a garden pond fountain in your back yard. When you build a pond fountain it can be very stressful just like any other home remodeling project especially if you decided to do it yourself. You start to learn there is more to the pond then just sitting back and enjoying the view after it has been built. After a few weeks of enjoying the view, you start to discover that you have to start maintaining your garden fountain because things are starting to grow in it.

Water Level Is Uneven

If you notice that your new garden pond fountain is leaning to one side or that the water is glowing unevenly then your fountain is probably sinking unevenly. One important thing to remember when you build a pond fountain is that you need to construct it on level ground. You will soon discover if you did not level the ground enough as the garden pond fountain starts to settle over the weeks after it’s installed. It may take weeks or months for the fountain to completely settle as the soil around it compacts from the weight of the water. If you have already installed the pond and it has been sometime since you installed it then the best solution is to apply some clear sealant to help direct the water to the area you want it to go. It will not help the direction of the garden pond fountain if it is shooting out at an angle but you might be able to adjust the spray to compensate for the unevenness.

Green Things Growing

If you do not operate your garden pond fountain and just let your water sit there for weeks at a time you may discover your water has turned green due to algae. You can put some animal safe algae treatment into your pond and make sure you run your garden pond fountain. The best way to prevent algae from growing to begin with is to make sure you turn on your garden pond fountain so that the water circulates. It is not only there for your enjoyment but also to help with the maintenance of the pond. You probably spent some money on having your pond in your backyard and regular maintenance will ensure that you will have the pond around for many years to come.
