cymbidiums flowering to early !

Question
I live in the southern hemishpere, ad we have had an El nino summer much hotter and humid than average. Usually they flower
in sept/oct. I have 12 flowers coming up and winter has just started. They are outside and cant be put anywhere else. should I cut off the flower buds before they try and fully grow? if I do this will i be helping the plants to be able to flower in the usual time ( sept)? or should I risk the bud blast?

Answer
Hello Rebakah,

Most people ask why their orchid doesn't flower, you're the first person to ask why their orchid is flowering early!  So be grateful!!!  (grin)

You didn't mention the name of the cymbidium is but there are some that are capable of blooming several times a year, yours might be one of them.  As long as winter temperatures remain above 8C (45F) it should be okay outside but you might try placing it where it will have some overhead protection from the elements over winter.  This should not affect blooming later in the year if it is the type of cymbidium that blooms multiple times a year.

Hope this helped.
