Tiny black ants

Question
I have an indoor hibiscus and recently it has developed ants...tiny black ants have infested the buds and leaves...these ants do not seem to come from any where and only like this particular plant on a plant stand with many other varieties of indoor plants...what can I do to get rid of these pesty things??

Answer
Hi Sandy,

Ants are often attracted to plants that have been infested with scale insects, mealybugs or aphids, all of which secrete a sticky substance called honeydew. It is this honeydew that attracts the ants.

Have you noticed any stickiness on the leaves? Have you observed any insect pests?

If you have, let me know what you are seeing and I will tell you how to treat it.

Regards,
Will Creed
