Buy Trees Online - Key Pointers When Buying Trees

Growing and taking care of trees is challenging; however, one of the most important decisions you need to make is the type of trees you would like to grow. There are plenty of species to choose from. They also come in different sizes such as dwarfs, standard and semi dwarf. Your choice of tree is very important and will have a major impact on the whole experience. The level of input and rewards (fruits) will be influenced by the type of tree you choose. It is important to take the time to research in order to make an informed decision. There are several practical considerations you need to make, especially if you have a small garden.

Spread and height

Height is a very important consideration. You must consider the height of the tree, not just when you're buying it, but also when it is fully grown. The smallest of trees, such as ornamental ones, can get to a height of 6-7 meters, which is about 20-23 feet. If the height cannot be accommodated in the space you have, you can go for the weeping kind, which do not grow to be very tall. In most cases, spread is not an issue for most, unless one is planting in an enclosed space. If this is the case, you can consider columnar trees which do not spread too far.

Dwarf trees

Dwarf trees are ideal for small spaces, say in the yard. They use up very little space, usually with a maximum 8 foot diameter. Dwarf trees are generally smaller compared to other trees; however their fruits are just about the same size as other trees. Their height only makes them much simpler to prune. These trees also live as long as larger trees, they begin fruiting from 3 years. Remember to check their age when buying these trees.

Standard fruits

These tend to take up more space than dwarf trees. They can go up thirty feet. They need to be pruned every year if you do not want them to grow too long. They are ideal for people who are simply looking for a shade in their yard. They begin fruiting after about 3 years, depending on how well you care for them. They take time to reach their optimal height, which is why they make good shades. They come in different types, with some making better shades than others. Ensure that you explain to your supplier what you want.

Type of soil

You need to consider the types of soil and which trees will do best in your area. You can opt for exotic trees as opposed to local ones; however, this will require more commitment, and they can be challenging to grow. There are those that perform better in damp soil while others can thrive in dry soil. If your area receives good rainfall, plum trees can do well. In drier areas, you can go for apple or pear trees. It is always advisable to consult with your nursery on which types of trees can perform well in your area. They will probably give you a list of trees that you can search for as you buy trees online.
