Facts
It is a large orange blossom. There are dark spots on its petals and it has a strong and sweet fragrance. This flower was first described in the writings of a famous Swedish botanist, Carl Von Linne. Around 1804, William Kerr introduced Britain to this blossom. There are two sub types: one is the Oriental type, and the other is the wild species. The oriental one has to be planted by the bulb. These can be later dug up and divided. The wild species grows with the help of tuberous roots.

The primary requirement for growing this blossom is damp soil. The Columbia lily needs well-drained soil coupled with organic fertilizer or mulch. This flower can grow from 4 to 6 inches long to a width of 3 inches. The leaves of this plant are narrow and are a couple of inches wide. They give a bright and jazzy look to your garden or yard. It can be called a perennial flower or herb, and it is edible. The bulbs are dug up and boiled or steamed in the USA and some Oriental countries.
