Is the garden lime (powder type) the same as pickling lime?

Hi Victoria, It is not the same.  Hydrated or pickling lime changes the pH rapidly and generally is only used in the garden for odor control.  Garden lime changes the pH much slower, over a 2-4 week period normally.  That's much healthier for established plants and is much, much cheaper to use.  Jim
