persimmon trees

Question
when pollinating persimmon trees what is the ratio of male to female trees for instance if you had 60 female trees how many males should you have

Answer
Hi Wayne,
Thanx for your question.  Yours is really a tree question for our Tree Forum, but I've got the answer for you.

The ratio of male to female trees should be around 1 male per 8 female trees for optimum pollination.  So, if you have 60 trees, you should have about 8 male trees.  Bear in mind too, even though the American Persimmon is basically dioecious meaning, as you already know, there are male trees and female trees, some trees can be bisexual and have both sexes on the same tree.  This is unusual, but apparently occurs naturally in this tree.  I hope this helps.
Tom
