fruitless mullberry trees

Question
how do i take cutting from my mullberry tree to start more trees and when

Answer
Hi Stella,
Thanx for your question.

Take cuttings from the mother tree in the summer. Take the cutting from the leafy softwood (green) part of the tree.  Cuttings should be clean and free of disease.

Cuttings should be about 6 inches long.  Strip the cutting of all but the top two or three leaves.  Dip the cutting in rooting hormone which you should be able to get at a good garden center.

Make holes with a pencil about 2 inches deep in a mixture of equal parts sand (or fine gravel), peat and perlite.  Gently fit the cutting into the hole Provide adequate drainage in a clean container during the rooting process.

Provide a moist, humid environment for the rooting process.  Cover the container with plastic or glass to create a greenhouse environment otherwise you must continually mist the cutting.

Keep the cuttings out of direct sunlight.  Rooting can take 100 days or more.  I hope this helps.
