Germinating

Question
Hey Tom I have cones that came off My Norfolk Pine Tree How do You extract the seeds and germinate them.?

Answer
Hi Jay,
Thanx for your question.  The attached URL is from the Hawai'i Extension and should be very helpful.  I don't recommend climbing a treet to get the cones.  Gather cones on the ground and you should be able to have enough viable seed.  There are pictures of the seed in the URL I've attached.  Seed germinates in a week to ten days and up to three weeks in warm temperatures with soil kept moist but not soggy.

Each one of the scales on the cone will have ONE seed.  There are pics of what the seed looks like.  The document I've attached via the URL was made for growers but hobbyists can use the same directions quite easily.  Let me know if you need more help.
thx,
Tom
