What to w/ frogs when re-doing a pond

Question
Hi,

Thanks for your time. We have a very old pond (no liner) natural inflow that runs slowly most of the year. We want to have the pond redone,... dug a bit deeper, widened and perhaps something to move the water as it is somewhat still and has algae over most of it at certain times of year.

Our concern is that we have dozens of frogs living in the pond and my son has named every one of them. What can we do with the frogs while we dig up their home. I don't want to harm or lose any if possible.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Answer
I suggest that you buy some kiddie pools or livestock stock tanks.  As you catch frogs, put them in there.  You'll have to net the temporary ponds, or the frogs will just hop out and go back to their old pond. If you just move them aside while working, they will probably come back and get in the way.

A fountain or even a filtration system will help your pond as far as clarity, health, and oxygenation.  You don't say how big the pond is but if it's under 20,000 gallons, you may want to line it with a EPDM liner.

Good luck!
