Long Island

Question
I've been a gardener for many years, but lately have been getting bored.  Recently I developed an interest in tropicals and I feel the excitement again!  Could you give me a list of plants that would do well on Long Island, NY?  I have a den that has east, west and mostly south windows to overwinter anything too delicate for our winters.  Thank you for your suggestions!

Answer
Hi Sandra, well lets see if we can compile a list to alleviate your boredom: how about trying the following, Pentas (flowering perennial), Dwarf Bougainvillea(small shrub with colorful bracts), Mandevilla (flowering vine),Super Dwarf Cavandish Musa (smallest Banana plant you can get), Majesty Palm, Lady Palm, Areca Palm and Yucca. That should keep you busy, and relieve your boredom, just keep in mind, they will need winter protection...good luck! Nick
